
New eligibility criteria for the Rebate Scheme will apply for water heaters installed from 1 July 2008 (postponed from 17 May), in line with the introduction of new water heater performance standards.
A $500 rebate will be available to applicants who meet the eligibility criteria. The following table summarises hot water systems eligible for the rebate.

* Renovation –new hot water system not replacing an existing one
** Gas access is natural gas or LPG, reticulated in the street
*** Includes reticulated and bottled gas already in use for water heating
Eligible applicants are home owners who:
Install a complying water heater, as outlined above, to serve their principal place of residence; and at the time of the installation, hold at least one of the following Australian Government concession cards:
- Centrelink Health Care Card
- Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card
- DVA Gold Card – Totally and Permanently Incapacitated
- DVA Gold Card - War Widow
- DVA - Extreme Disablement Adjustment
Existing eligibility criteria will apply for heat pump/solar water heaters installed until 30 June 2008 (as per the date of completed installation on the Electrical or Gas Certificate of Compliance). All applications under the current eligibility criteria will have to be lodged with Energy Division by 30 September 2008.
From 1 July 2008, eligible homeowners will have three (3) months from the date of completed installation, as per the Electrical or Gas Certificate of Compliance, to lodge their rebate applications under the revised scheme.
